Weekly Worship - July 23, 2016

Lakeside Presbyterian

Sunday, July 24, Pastor Ross Arnold of Lakeside Presbyterian Church continues his “Great Adventure” series with a sermon entitled “Knowing Who We Are.”

Says Arnold: “One of the great joys of the Christian life is having a clear understanding of who we are. We know who made us, how we are to relate to God and others, and the purpose of our lives as children of God.”

Lakeside Presbyterian Church meets in their new church building in Riberas del Pilar. Turn toward the lake at Mom’s Restaurant; the church is two blocks down on the right. English-language services at 10 a.m. and Spanish-language services at 9 a.m. and noon.

New Hope Christian

The congregation of New Hope Christian Fellowship will hear a fresh voice during their worship service on Sunday, July 24 at 11 a.m. Rev. John Whitener will be bringing the message while Pastor Gene Raymer is on vacation.

Whitener is a missionary who currently teaches classes for individuals preparing to deliver God’s word.  As always, a fellowship meal will follow the service.

New Hope Christian Fellowship is a non-denominational Christian congregation that seeks to live according to the teachings of the New Testament while holding on to all the truths of the Old Testament.

The group meets in the upper room of the Presbyterian Church in Riberas del Pilar. All believers are warmly welcomed.

Christ Church Episcopal

Christ Church Episcopal Church will observe the Tenth Sunday after Pentecost by celebrating The Holy Eucharist Sunday, July 24, 9:30 a.m. at The Little Chapel by the Lake, located at Carretera 10 in Chula Vista.  Fr. Danny Borkowski will preside and give a message with the theme “Teach Us to Pray” based on Luke 11:1-13.

The congregations of Christ Church Episcopal and The Little Chapel share a common fellowship time between their two services, from about 10:35 until 11:25 a.m.

Christ Church Episcopal comes together for the Lunch Bunch at La Taverna del Quattro “Mori” Sunday at 11:30 a.m.

The congregation joins the Lakeside Singers in a sing-along at Casa Nostra rest home Wednesday, July 27, 4:30 p.m. After the sing-along the group gathers for dinner about 6 p.m. at Pizzeria Toscana’s new location on the Carretera in Ajijic across from the Auditorio de la Ribera, next to Johanna’s Restaurant.

The following Sunday, July 31 Christ Church will take its “church-in-a-box” to Mazamitla to celebrate with Holy Family Mission. A car pool from Farmacia Guadalajara in Ajijic leaves at 9 a.m. for the trip. People are encouraged to bring sandwiches and salads to share after the service.

Christ Church sponsors a Bible Study Tuesday, July 26, 2 p.m.  in the Fellowship Hall of the Little Chapel.  Spend an hour tackling the Book of Revelation.

Little Chapel

The congregation of the Little Chapel by the Lake meets Sunday, July 24, 11 a.m. for fellowship (coffee and refreshments), and at 11:30 a.m. for their Praise and Worship service. The sermon title this Sunday is “A Man on a Mission,” presented by Pastor Jonathan Admire.

The congregation will be spending the next few weeks going through the missionary journeys of the Apostle Paul.  They will use the book of Acts as a map along the way, and explore some of the letters Paul wrote to the early Church as it was being established.  This week they begin along the Damascus road where Saul has an encounter that forever changed his life.

There will also be a children’s lesson covering the same ground. For more information, call 766-0156.

Unitarians

The Sunday, July 24 service of the Lake Chapala Unitarian Universalist Fellowship, led by Mardele Harland, is a special participatory book-sharing service.  It provides an opportunity to share information about a book you have read which has touched, challenged, informed or inspired you.

The Unitarians meet 10:30 a.m. at Hidalgo 261 in Riberas del Pilar, opposite the bell tower, on the north side of the Carretera.

St. Andrew’s Anglican

Ask any church person what Jesus taught about prayer, and the almost automatic response will be The Lord’s Prayer. But that was simply the model prayer Jesus gave, repeated daily by uncounted millions of people. But what He taught about prayer is what He said afterwards, which is considerably more complicated than just memorizing a few rote phrases. Fr. Winston Welty’s sermon this Sunday explores that teaching, and imagines “A God as Good as Our Friends.”

Worship at St. Andrew’s Anglican Church begins with the Holy Eucharist at 10 a.m., and is preceded by the children’s bilingual Sunday School at 9:45, and followed by a coffee hour in the garden.

Every Sunday, the feeding programs supported by St. Andrew’s welcome donations of non-perishable food items, left in the baskets by the church doors.

St. Andrew’s is at Calle San Lucas 19, a block south of the Carretera in Riberas del Pilar.

Lake Chapala Baptists

Gary Smith, the associate pastor of liaison between English- and Spanish-speaking congregations at Lake Chapala Baptist Church, will be filling in this week for Brother Bob Hendrick.

The Lake Chapala Baptist Church celebrates worship service each Sunday, 11 a.m. at Santa Margarita 147 in Riberas del Pilar.

San Andres English

“Christ has given us in very truth the power to become the children of God.  Compare the timidity and self-abnegation of Abraham’s prayer with the confidence with which Christ teaches us to pray to Our Father in heaven.”

So says Fr. Basil G. Royston, D. Min., who will offer the homily “Our Father in Heaven” at San Andres Catholic Church’s English-language service Sunday, July 24, 9 a.m.

San Andres is located at the corner of Ramon Corona and Parroquia, one block from the Ajijic main plaza.

St. Mark’s Anglican, Guadalajara

On July 24, there will be no English Mass at St. Mark’s due to the absence of Father Priddy. Spanish Mass will be held as usual at 12:30 p.m.

St. Marks is at Chichimecas 836, corner of Aztecas, a two-minute drive north of Plaza Mexico, in Colonia Monraz, (33) 3641-6620 or (cell) 33-1432-3497.
