Love in Action unveils blueprint for the future

Chapala’s Love in Action children’s shelter has unveiled a comprehensive blueprint for upgrading its home base in the Las Redes neighborhood.

The Campus Master Plan was drawn up during a week-long development workshop conducted through a know-how sharing grant from Engineering Ministries International (EMI), an organization that designs facilities serving communities in developing countries.

EMI team Leader Kevin Keiter and 13 volunteers from across the United States applied their expertise in architectural design and engineering in the process of surveying the  property, assessing its buildings and consulting with the Love in Action staff to determine changes to the site that will best answer the shelter’s current and future needs.

The master plan includes housing accommodations for 44 children, repurposing some existing structures for optimum use, adding a school with the capacity for 60 youngsters, an all-weather covered sports complex for exercise and recreation, and a full kitchen to service both the shelter’s resident children and a community soup kitchen.

One of the project’s aims is to open the door for funding opportunities to support Love in Action’s growth through the coming years.
