Chapala sports fair, foot race set for next weekend

Jesus Hernandez Davila, director of Chapala’s Municipal Sports Commission (Comude), has announced plans for a three-day program of special activities aimed at promoting physical fitness and healthy living.

Set for Friday, May 22 through Sunday May 24, Expo Deportes will be headquartered at the upper level of Cinemas del Lago on the top floor of Ajijic’s Plaza Bugambilias. Corporate sponsor Marti Outlet from Centro Laguna will be offering a wide assortment of athletic outfits and sporting goods at special prices. Local gyms, martial arts schools, athletic clubs and health and fitness enterprises will also be on hand to pitch their products and services.

The agenda also includes free workshops for children and a series of six conferences related to sporting disciplines, psychology for practicing athletes and nutritional habits.

Highlighting the program is the annual seven-kilometer foot race, scheduled for Sunday, May 24, departing from Chapala City Hall at 9 a.m., following the highway to the finish line outside the Expo venue.  The competition is open for runners in four age categories, 14 years and up, divided into men’s and women’s divisions.  All racers will take home a commemorative medal. Proceeds from the collection of 150-peso-per-person inscription fees will be split up in the winners’ purse.

Shorter races of varying lengths will also be held for youngsters age 4 to 13.
