Democrats power up for U.S. elections

Mexico-based members of Democrats Abroad gathered in Chapala last weekend to hold their annual general meeting and zero in on strategies for supporting party candidates in the 2016 U.S. general elections.  Attending as a special guest, veteran Oklahoma politician Tom Guild (far left) shared insights with the group, including Dems Abroad Mexico chair Jody Quinnell, Chapala chapter founder Sandra Loridans and current local chapter chair Larry Pihl.

Guild, a professor emeritus on law and political science at the University of Central Oklahoma, believes that while Hillary Clinton will probably gain the presidential nomination, any Democratic contender has a strong chance of winning the White House.  “It doesn’t matter who the candidate is. We have a coalition of women, Latinos, African Americans and progressives that is difficult for the Republican to dismantle,” he observes.

Guild also spoke at a Sunday afternoon cocktail fundraiser for him held by Puerto Vallarta-based political activist Paul Crist. About 35 Democrats attended the event held in Cine del Lago after the Dems Abroad weekly movie shown there. Crist said that another fundraiser for Guild will be held in San Miguel de Allende in July.
