With midterm elections coming up in just over two weeks, the United States Consulate General in Guadalajara is once again providing a vital service to absentee voters residing in the lakeshore area.
During the October 15 monthly visit of consular officials to the Lake Chapala Society (LCS), local Democrats Abroad chairman Howard Feldstein handed over a stack of approximately 100 sealed envelopes containing absentee ballots to Lori Pennell, consular assistant for American Citizen Services. The ballots will be sent across the border via the consulate’s diplomatic pouch to be promptly forwarded to election officials across the nation through the U.S. postal system.
According to Feldstein, voters who have not yet sent off their absentee still have a few days to take advantage of the consulate’s delivery service.
Dems Abroad volunteers will be available to collect ballots and provide assistance to all voters, regardless of political affiliation, on Mondays, October 20 and 27, at the LCS grounds and Wednesday, October 22 at a table outside Salvador’s Restaurant at Plaza Bugambilias, from 10 a.m. to noon at both locations. Last minute ballots will then be delivered to the consulate for inclusion in the pouch going out on October 28.
The general elections scheduled for Tuesday, November 4 involve contests for all 435 seats in the House of Representatives and 33 of the 100 seats in the Senate, as well as 38 state and territorial governorships, renewal of 46 state legislatures and various other local races.
