The voter registration and assistance program run by the Lake Chapala Chapter of Democrats Abroad Mexico will add a second phase beginning Monday, September 29.
In addition to continuing with registration assistance, the local organization will have a red, white and blue ballot box to receive absentee ballots from local expats.
The box will be in the office at The Lake Chapala Society (LCS) and available during normal business hours. Ballots may also be delivered to the organization’s volunteers during their voter registration sessions, which are conducted from 10 a.m. to noon on Mondays at LCS and from 10 a.m. to noon on Wednesdays at Salvador’s Restaurant, in Ajijic, through October 15.
Voters are reminded to make sure their ballots are in a “postage pre-paid” envelope or, if not using a pre-paid postage envelope, they must have the correct value of U.S. postage stamps applied to the envelope they are using.
Ballots collected will be delivered to the U.S. Consulate Office in Guadalajara and then forwarded to the appropriate addresses in the U.S. in a timely fashion.
“We have provided this service in past years with great success,” says Howard Feldstein, chairman of the voter registration and assistance program.
“The biggest benefit is peace of mind for voters, knowing that their ballots have been handled in a professional manner and that all votes will be counted.”
Democrats Abroad operates its voter registration and assistance program on a non-partisan basis.
