Tapatio nominated for film award

“SPARK,” a film produced by Tapatio Diego Nájera, has been nominated for a BAFTA U.S. Student Film Award.  The winner will be named at a ceremony held June 16 at the Wallis Annenberg Center for the Preforming Arts in Beverly Hills, California.

Before moving to Los Angeles, Nájera studied communication at the Tec de Monterrey in Guadalajara and was on the organizing committee of the Guadalajara International film Festival for six years.

“SPARK” tells the story of Oscar, a young Venezuelan student who sparks a social media movement using an innovative cell phone application to circumvent the censorship in his country. This film was produced with the support of the Alfred P. Sloan Film Production Grant, Open Garden and FireChat.

The film was developed by Nájera and co-producer Tim Hautekiet, together with director Juan Martinez Vera, both graduates of the University of Southern California.

The U.S. section of BAFTA (British Academy of Film and Television Arts) selected “SPARK” from 250 entries from 54 U.S. film schools.
