Street Festival

Tlaquepaque is certainly worth a visit this weekend as the second Festival Internacional de Música de Calle (International Street Music Festival) takes over the charming Guadalajara crafts suburb. Organizers have planned an ambitious 140 performances by some 50 individual artists and groups, showcasing all manner of artistic endeavors, including theater, music, dance, circus arts and more. Countries represented will be Mexico, Portugal, Italy, Germany, Israel, Russia, Denmark, Spain and France.

You can catch performances every hour at four locations between noon and 10 p.m. daily during the four days of the festival, from Thursday, November 20 through Sunday, November 23. All performances are free of charge.

The four forums are all located in Tlaquepaque Centro and within easy walking distance of each other. They are the Plaza de Artes (Independencia and Cruz Verde), the Centro Cultural El Refugio (Donato Guerra 160), the Jardin Hidaglo, and the explanade of the Santuario Church.

Lions Club

The Circulo de Produccion is a collective of small independent producers of organic, vegetarian and vegan foods, as well as health-oriented products and services. Many members of the collective are regulars at local farmer’s markets, including the popular ones held in the Lake Chapala area.

The group holds its second Feria de Productores on Wednesday, November 26, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Club de Leones (Lions Club), Avenida de los Leones 75, Fraccionamiento Tepeyac Casino, in Zapopan (just off Avenida Tepeyac).

Buyers will find a large range of items for sale, including coffee, milk, chocolate, vegetables, eggs, mushrooms, granola, cereals, liquor, cookies, tamales, cheeses, jams, seeds, chiles, biodegradable soap, shampoo, plants, a selection of handmade crafts and much more.

The collective’s first fair held at the Lions Club in September attracted nearly 100 vendors and a large, enthusiastic crowd.

Colonia Americana

Jalisco al Natural has organized a “Click and Trip” photographic walking tour/workshop of Colonia Americana, one of Guadalajara’s most elegant “older” neighborhoods, on Saturday, November 29, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

The cost of 490 pesos includes the photographic workshop, a guide, visits to homes in the neighborhood, drinks throughout the tour and a hamburger meal in Pig’s Pearl, one of the zone’s most popular eateries.

Botanical art

Proyecto Arteria, a three-day fair centered around contemporary botanical art, takes place in the Café Benito/Sala Juárez of the Laboratorio de Artes Variedades (LARVA) in downtown Guadalajara from Friday, November 28 through Sunday, November 30.

Around 20 artists are expected to exhibit and sell their works. In addition, artist Diana Martin will lead a conference, and four workshops will be held.

LARVA is at Ocampo 120, at the corner of Juarez.

American School

The American School Foundation of Guadalajara has received an award from the Guadalajara chapter of the American Chamber of Commerce of Mexico for being the “Empresa Americana Sobresaliente del Año” (Outstanding American Business of the Year). The prize was scheduled to be handed out during the American Chamber’s annual assembly at the city’s Hotel Fiesta Americana on November 21.
