Weddings and cars will be the draw this weekend at Expo Guadalajara, before technology takes over on Monday. Expo Boda, billed as the largest wedding expo in Latin America, will exhibit Saturday and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Cost is 150 pesos and the ticket can be used both days.
Looking for a new car? Expo Auto runs Saturday through Sunday and deals on 2014 and 2015 models are abound. Classic cars from the 1920s, 30s and 40s will be showcased. A comparison guide for autos will be distributed to help you figure out which car is right for you. To renew your driver’s license at the event, this is what you must bring: Jalisco licence, copy and original of your CURP, know your blood type, original of deposit to Banamex account numer 55534-9, sucursal 870, referencia 1 (amounts: auto: 420 pesos, chofer: 500 pesos, motociclista 210 pesos), very recent telephone or electricity bill, or bank statement that has your name on it.
WCIT
Monday, September 29, one of the world’s most prestigious get-togethers focusing on Information Communication Technologies (ICT) meets at the Expo. The World Congress on Information Technology (WCIT) expects some 30,000 visitors to browse the more than 50 world-renowned exhibitors and hobnob with about 2,500 delegates from some 80 countries, and close to 100 noteworthy speakers, including corporate leaders, policymakers, government officials and members of academia. The three-day conference will “explore current industry trends, hot topics developments and better practices.” For more information go to http://wcit2014.org.
Miley Cyrus
Fresh from a controversial performance in Monterrey, where she was fined for disrespecting the Mexican flag, U.S. pop singer Miley Cyrus entertained – and shocked – a large audience September 21 at the Auditorio Telmex in Guadalajara. At one point, the 21-year-old stunned fans by wearing a rubber male private part on her face.
Amsoc Octoberfest
The American Society (Amsoc) is putting on the Ohm pa-pa at its yearly Octoberfest luncheon, October 4. German veal sausage, sauerkraut, potato salad and a special dessert are on the menu for 120 pesos.
All about chocolate
Lovers of chocolate should make a beeline for the Casa Museo Lopez Portillo (furniture museum), where a new exhibit on the history of this essentially Mexican culinary delight opened this week. Items on show include both Mexican and U.S. memorabilia associated with chocolate, as well as various historical brands and related items. Nine movies covering the theme will be shown, one each Saturday, 5 p.m., during the exposition. A children’s program will offer a chocolate workshop called Letters of Chocolate, where they will learn about the history of cacao and how to make chocolate. Two conferences on October 23 and November 20, both at 8 p.m., focus on “Chocolate in Literature” and “Chocolate: the Taste of Desire.” An altar to the departed in honor of the ladies who made chocolate at Chocolates Vivanco, founded in 1928, will be presented November 1.
The Casa Museo Lopez is in the Centro Historico, Liceo 177, two blocks from the Museo Regional. Open Tuesday to Sunday, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
