LLT season continues

“Painting Churches” plays at the Lakeside Little Theatre (LLT) from Friday, September 23 through Sunday, October 2.

Written by Tina Howe, the play is set in a luxury Boston apartment, where an aging professor emeritus and poet laureate, along with his wacky wife, await the arrival of their portrait artist daughter who wishes to paint them before they have to move to smaller quarters. Fond and funny memories color their dialog until the painful memories of youth surface. This play exposes the sometimes destructive memories that can tear a family apart, but it also brings out the fact that love can and does mend differences.

Making it happen are cast L.B. Hamilton, David Wharff and Tina Leonard; director Peggy Lord Chilton; stage manager Beth Leitch and assistant stage manager Debra Bowers.

Curtain is 7:30 p.m. evenings, 3 p.m. for Sunday matinees. Tickets are available at the LLT box office, 10 a.m. to noon, Wednesdays and Thursdays, and every day during the show, except for Sunday. Singers wanted

Los Cantantes del Lago is looking for more male singers and sopranos for this season.

Maestro Timothy Welch is planning to present John Rutter’s “Gloria” with brass, percussion, organ and piano – and a full choir is needed. People who read music would be optimal, but if singers are not confident about their reading ability the group provides MP3 files to learn from.

For more information see loscantantesdellago.com and click on “Come Sing With Us!” An informal audition is required to meet the director and determine voice range.

Naked Stage

“Tuesdays with Morrie” by Jeffrey Hatcher and Mitch Albom will be offered Friday, September 30 and Saturday and Sunday, October 1 and 2 at the Naked Stage Readers Theatre in Riberas del Pilar.

“Tuesdays with Morrie” is the autobiographical story of Mitch Albom, an accomplished journalist driven solely by his career, and Morrie Schwartz, his former college professor. Sixteen years after graduation, Mitch happens to catch Morrie’s appearance on a television news program and learns that his old professor is battling Lou Gehrig’s Disease. Mitch is reunited with Morrie, and what starts as a simple visit turns into a weekly pilgrimage and a last class in the meaning of life.

The play is directed by Graham Miller and features Paul Kloegman and Damyn Young.
