Collaborated Art Journals

ASA’s November meeting speaker, artist and educator Candace Spence, has worked in many mediums while teaching adults and children for more than 25 years.

During the Monday, November 2, 10:30 a.m. meeting at La Bodega Restaurant, she will present the concepts she developed for two lakeside collaborated art journal projects. Each workshop included 10 to 12 area artists who learned to make their own blank art journal and then use it to inspire creativity and extend their personal artistic endeavor.

Spence’s commissioned art pieces include a 5 ft x 20 ft hand painted glazed tile mural for a California animal hospital, a mural for an elementary school in Slidell, Louisiana, posters, and a number of event and corporate logos.

Spence was the director of four private preschools, founded a children’s art camp in San Diego, taught art in several U.S. private schools and art workshops at the children’s museums in Escondido, California; Providence, Rhode Island and New Orleans.

After moving to lakeside with her husband, Bob Klug, she has presented several workshops in gyotaku, a traditional Japanese method of printing with fish, a practice which dates to the mid-1800s. Once used by fishermen to record their catches, it has now become an art form.
