Don’t miss out. Ticket sales are hot as patrons look set to stream to the Lakeside Little Theatre to see “The Wrecking Crew,” a documentary featuring the story of the dynamite musicians who played behind the favorite stars of the 1960s and 70s.
A very limited number of tickets are left for the four showings on Friday, July 17 through Sunday, July 19. The final opportunity to purchase tickets is Monday, July 13 and Tuesday, July 14, from 10 a.m. until noon at the theater’s box office.
Kids’ Art Camp
It’s time for kids to register to attend the Lake Chapala Society
Children’s Summer Art Camp. With just two weeks left for registration, there are already almost 90 kids signed up to attend the five morning sessions from Monday, July 20 through Friday, July 24.
Most children register during LCS’ program on Saturday mornings. Planners expect the list of attendees to tally about 130 by the end of the July 18 session – up from 105 participants in 2014.
Fifty volunteers have signed on to help during classes. There is room for several more adults to help.
All children must preregister for the classes on the LCS form that must be signed by parents and returned at a Saturday session. Children aged five and under must be accompanied by an adult.
“We still have room in most of the workshops, but readers who want to register their kids, grandkids, maids’ and gardeners’ children should come to the LCS between 10 a.m. and noon on Saturday, July 11 to ensure spots in the workshops,” says program coordinator Danielle Page. “The workshops fill up quickly, and I expect many of the children will be returning completed and signed registration forms this week. Unfortunately we must limit our attendance to the number of tables, chairs and adult volunteers that are available.”

Candlelight Concerts
Kimmie Everest is returning to Ajijic from Toronto to sing the blues in two evenings of entertainment with the Galen Quartet at Restaurante La Mision. She will be performing the candlelight concerts on Friday, July 17 and Saturday, July 18.

Viva La Musica!
Viva la Musica is presenting a concert of romantic and contemporary music on Thursday, July 23, 7 p.m. at the Auditorio del Lago. The featured musicians are Daniel Estrada Aguayo on clarinet and Hans Peter Aull on piano.
The program includes pieces by Schumann, French composers Saint-Saëns and Poulenc, and Mexico’s Arturo Marquez.
Estrada has a degree in music from the University of Guadalajara, where he wowed examiners as he earned a perfect mark on his final clarinet performance. He has played with several of orchestras and is a music teacher with the National Institute of Fine Arts, Orquesta Azteca in Tlaquepaque, the Instituto de Formación Artística “Musik” in Guadalajara and CREM, the Ajijic music school.
Aull performs as a soloist on piano, organ and harpsichord and has participated in chamber music concerts in Germany, France, Ecuador and Mexico. As a retired music professor, he now devotes his time to accompanying and advising young Mexican musicians.
Tickets for this concert are 200 pesos and are available at the auditorium, at Diane Pearl Colecciones and the Lake Chapala Society box office, as well as at the door before the concert.
Art Guild Exhibit
The Lake Chapala Painting Guild is sponsoring a “Meet the Artists” event on Saturday, July 25, from 5-7 p.m. at Arileo Restaurant.
Each of the ten participating expert artists, all members of the guild, will introduce themselves and then describe the methods and media they employ, show and talk about their work in the show and discuss their art philosophies.
The guild artists who are presenting this show and informational program include Carol Ann Owers, Lois Schroff, Efren Gonzales, Marian Decker, Varn, Winnie Hunt, Maryann Linhart, Antonio Lopez Vega, Inak Gleysztor, Cynthia duBois. Their paintings will remain in place at Arileo until mid-August.
To celebrate this special event, Arileo will offer attendees two margaritas for the price of one. Many of those who come to meet the artists will enjoy staying after the event for dinner and more discussion about the art.
