Father’s Day Dance

Dads and their families are invited to celebrate Father’s Day on Sunday, June 21 with the Estudio Ballet Olimpia in the Jocotepec  plaza at 7 p.m. There is no entrance fee for this event, which is held in association with the Direccion de Arte, Cultura y Tradicion del Municipio de Jocotepec.

Facharte Benefit

“So You Think You Can Dance” is the theme of the benefit for the Facharte program on Wednesday, June 24 at Café Lago Bistro.

Facharte is a local program conceived by Jaime Barbiery to add color and art to the streets of lakeside villages with the painting of murals on walls and garage doors.
Proceeds from this evening of music, dance and fun will help offset the cost of the paints and materials for upcoming projects.

There is a 50-peso cover charge for this event. Following the 7 p.m. no-host dinner, the amusing dance show will take the stage. Be sure to arrive early. The event is limited to the first 50 participants. There are no advance ticket sales – first come, first served.

Guitars & Flute

Just before they head off to Europe, a dynamic trio will come to perform a recital at the Centro Cultural Gonzalez Gallo in Chapala (the former train station) on Sunday, June 21, 4 p.m.

Three top level Guadalajara musicians – Nury Ulate on flute and David Mozqueda and Winifred Kellner on guitars – will leave for a tour of Germany on July 9.
Mozqueda and Kellner formed El Duo Concertante in 2012 and have since performed and competed as teachers and as concert players in festivals, national and international competitions, cultural centers and concert halls in a number of countries.

They have been invited to perform in international guitar festivals in Durango, Lagos de Moreno, Paracho and Colima. Their last foreign tour included festivals in France, Italy and Germany.

Mozqueda also forms a duo, El Duo Prelude, along with Ulate, the first chair flutist of the Jalisco Philharmonic Orchestra. Their passion, musical interpretation and the melodic blending of their instruments have earned them the appreciation of audiences in Mexico and in the United States, Germany, Spain, Ecuador and Costa Rica. In addition to recording three albums on CD, the duo has played in the Piedmon Classic Guitar society in North Carolina, the Southwest Guitar Festival in San Antonio, Texas, and an international festival in Italy, as well as a number of important Mexican festivals.   

The Chapala concert will include original works as well as Spanish compositions, and the works of Manuel de Falla, Joaquin Rodrigo, M. Diefo Pujol, M. Manual Ponce, J.C. Oliva and others.

In order to raise funds for the upcoming tour, the group is asking for a 200-peso donation at the door. No one will be turned away.

Romance at Yacht Club

Guadalajara musical association Cultural Tapatio presents a night of much-loved boleros at the Ajijic Yacht Club on Friday, June 26 , 6:30 to 9 p.m.
“Bohemas Tapatias” will feature the music of Consuelo Velazquez, Maria Greever, Agustin Lara, Armando Manzanero, Gonzalo Curiel and other Mexican composers of romantic songs.

Music to be featured after dinner is served includes international hits by Edith Piaf, Whitney Houston, Frank Sinatra, Charles Chaplin and melodies from Spain, Italy and Argentina.

Bohemias Tapatias has been a staple every Thursday in Guadalajara for ten years (presented as Travadores Tapatios). In this jaunt to Lakeside, the group will showcase the talents of Flavio Abraham Guerrero on keyboards, singers Lorena del Carmen, Jose Goart, Victor Gonzalez Canizalez and Saulo. The group is coordinated by Fernando Almaraz Hernandez, president of Cultural Tapatio.

Included in the price of 260 pesos is a dinner of salad, stuffed chicken breast with side dish and a glass of wine. A cash bar is available.

Tickets are available at Diane Pearl Colecciones in Ajijic, the Ajijic Yacht Club (Club Nautica), or though Facebook/Bohemias Tapatias. The Yacht Club is located next to the Real de Chapala Hotel on Paseo de Huerta in La Floresta.

Cultural Tapatio promotes a wide range of cultural and musical expression, such as bolero, ballads, rock, arias, Broadway and Hollywood hits and bohemian style music, poetry, dance, composition, stories and comedy. It caters to all ages and lovers of music and cultural manifestations.

Ballet

Ballet para Todos, a dance show featuring students in training at the Auditorio de la Ribera, Centro Releve and the Tlajomulco Escuela Municipal de Ballet, will be staged Sunday, June 28, noon at the auditorium  located La Floresta.  The program, produced by the parents of international ballet stars Isaac and Esteban  Hernandez, will showcase choreography from Don Quijote, La Bayadère, The Nutcracker and other popular ballets. Tickets are available from the box office at 40 pesos per person.
