Orchestra trips

Viva La Musica is ready for their first, Sunday, September 21 bus trip into Guadalajara to attend the concert performance of the Jalisco Philharmonic Orchestra in the city’s historic Teatro Degollado.

For this and other Sunday concerts during the season, the bus will leave lakeside at 4:30 p.m. so that the passengers will have time for dinner at a nice restaurant before the conductor takes up the baton.

No opera trips

Representatives from Viva la Musica announced this week that the group will not be taking a bus to the opera performances on Friday, November 14 or Sunday November 30 due to a dramatic increase in the cost of the tickets.

Tickets for the orchestra concerts are available at the Lake Chapala Society from 10 a.m. to noon on Thursdays and Fridays. The cost for Viva members is 300 pesos. Non-members will pay 400 pesos. For additional information, contact Marshall Krantz at (376) 766-2834.

Live from the Met

Viva la Musica will be running bus trips to view the HD Live from the Met (New York Metropolitan Opera) simulcasts at the Teatro Diana in Guadalajara in the fall and winter months.

The 2014 schedule is:
- Saturday, October 11: “Macbeth” by Verdi
- Saturday, October 25: “The Marriage of Figaro” by Mozart
- Saturday, November 1: “Carmen” by Bizet (bus departs one hour early, at 9.30 a.m.)
- Saturday, November 22: “Barber of Seville” by Rossini
- Saturday, December 13: “Die Meistersinger” by Wagner (a six-hour performance, bus departs one hour early, at 9.30 a.m.)

Tickets are 300 pesos for Viva members, 400 pesos for non-members, available at the Lake Chapala Society (LCS), Thursdays and Fridays, 10 a.m.-noon. For information call Marshall Krantz at 766-2834. Buses leave from the Carretera, just east of Farmácia Guadalajara at 10.30 a.m. (except on November 1 and December 13).

Calendar Party

Artists Belva and Enrique Velasquez invite one and all to their 22nd Calendar Party Opening on Friday, September 19 and Saturday, September 20, from 4 to 8 p.m. on both days.

The Velasquez’s traditional bilingual calendars feature beautiful Lake Chapala scenes and are a popular Christmas gift.
On display at the party will be all the original paintings used in the 2015 calendar. Patrons can have their calendars signed by the well-known area husband-and-wife artists.

The parties will be held at the Velazquez’s gallery at 16 de Septiembre #7 in Ajijic. Refreshments and live music will be provided.
