Viva la Musica
On Sunday July 20, 4 p.m. Viva la Musica will present bass baritone Cesar Becerra at the Auditorio de la Ribera, performing a range of operatic music, accompanied by Tim G. Welsh on piano. Tickets are available at the door for 200 pesos.
Art Camp for Kids
The Lake Chapala Society (LCS) Children’s Art Program kicks off its annual Children’s Art Camp on Monday, July 21. More than 100 children from Ajijic and the surrounding area will learn to create pieces of art in a variety of media during the week.
Local artists will also participate as instructors to guide the budding artists. On Saturday,July 26 there will be an Art Open House on the LCS grounds to showcase and sell the work of the students. The proceeds from the sales are split with half going to the young artists and the remaining half going into the kitty to continue to support the purchase of materials for the Children’s Art Program.

Naked Stage
The next performances of the Naked Stage readers’ theater will be on Friday, July 25; Saturday, Juy 26 and Sunday, July 27. The shows start at 4 p.m. and the box office opens at 3:15 p.m.
The play, “Mass Appeal” by Bill C. Davis, is a comedy-drama focusing on a complacent Roman Catholic pastor and an idealistic young seminarian, who is assigned to his affluent suburban parish.
While the play deals with issues facing the Roman Catholic Church in the early 1980s (issues the church still faces today), its essence is a generational conflict that could apply to just about any workplace that might come to mind today. It’s about truth versus complacency. Is it better to go along in order to get along, or to risk everything in telling the unflinching, complete truth? If you like your humor with a dash of thought-provoking wit and drama, than this piece is for you.
“Mass Appeal” is directed by Graham Miller and stars John Jones and Allen McGill.

Gonzalez Gallo Center
The popular series of Jalisco Secretary of Culture sponsored musical offerings at Chapala’s Gonzalez Gallo Cultural center (old Chapala train station) continues this month. The recitals by guitar player Jose Alberto Castellanos on July 10 and pianist Juan Pablo Garcia on July 16, together with the Opera Gala fundraiser for Orquesta Ajijic on July 15, were well received.
Rounding off the month’s offerings are two piano recitals by top University of Guadalajara students. First, Jose Alberto Castellanos will play on Thursday, July 24, followed by Nicolae Ionescu the following week, on Thursday July 31.
Both events begin at 7 p.m. and entrance is free.
Number Four
Number Four Restaurant in Ajijic presents guitarist Juan Castanon playing old jazz standards, blues and bossa nova each Sunday in July, from 5 p.m.

Art workshop
