International ‘gang’ teams up for Ajijic mural

A handful of men from various parts of the Americas are collaborating on a mural at the entrance of Casa Domenech, a new restaurant in Ajijic.

This fusion of cultures features an Argentinean, two Mexicans, a Chilean-born Brazilian and an expat from the United States.

Tim Tillman, a great lover of food, drink and art, hosted a dinner at Casa Domenech to thank Studio 19 owner Rodrigo and Victor Alcazar for recently completing a whimsical and beautiful mural at his home.

During the dinner the artists and eatery owner/chef Domenech moved quickly from introductions to planning a mural for the restaurant. Then fate added a bonus by directing world renowned artist Cesar Guzman to visit Studio 18 where he and Rodrigo became friends.

Learning of this local international cooperative mural effort, Guzman jumped into the action. When a quick Google search revealed that Guzman’s work sells for thousands of dollars, Domenech nervously asked the great artist for the cost of his participation in the mural.

“Some things you do for money and some for love,” Guzman replied. “You don’t have to pay me, but I will drink all your beer.”

The fusion of cultures that created the mural at Casa Domenech is also reflected in the multi-cultural and inclusive cuisine of the new restaurant where the owner and chef combines recipes from his Mexican and Argentinean family heritage with a few tricks he picked during his time in France and Spain.

Casa Domenech is at Zaragoza 109, Ajijic.
