UdG Ballet Folklorico
The renowned Universidad de Guadalajara folk dance troupe continues its summer/fall season with four more shows in October. There’s never a dull moment watching these accomplished dancers. Patrons will see new chorography and costumes to mark the troupe’s 50th anniversary.

Tuesday Recitals
The Martes de Música y Ópera series sponsored by the Jalisco Culture Department attracts some truly stellar classical performers and it’s all free!  Seating is on a first-come, first-served basis.  October 11: Kazimierz Olechowski (violin) and Josef Olechowski (piano).

Live from the Met
A new season of New York Met simulcasts begins with a production of Wagner’s “Tristan and Isolde,” conducted by Sir Simon Rattle for his first Live In HD performance.  Nina Stemme stars as Isolde, a touchstone role she has sung with major opera companies around the world.

Remembering ‘Juanga’
One of Mexico’s most famous mariachi bands, Los Camperos de Nati Cano, gives a homage to recently deceased singer Juan Gabriel.

Ara Malikian
Acclaimed Spanish violinist of Lebanese origins and Armenian descent has wide-ranging repertoire covering many genres.

Dutch National Ballet

One of Europe’s most acclaimed ballet troupes presents three shows, featuring “Don Quixote” and excerpts from selected works.  Hot from the Cervantino Festival.

Jalisco Philharmonic Orchestra
The first in a series of smaller “chamber music” programs featuring the orchestra’s leading players. Up first is a “jazz/pop” special that combines the orchestra’s principal brass musicians with the invited Jalisco Brass Ensemble. The program includes favorites such as Kandor’s “New York, New York,” Ellington’s “Come Sunday,” Abreu’s “Tico Tico” and Queen’s “Bohemian Rhapsody,” as well as other gems.

Jalisco Philharmonic Orchestra

The New York Jazz All Stars series, sponsored by the Universidad de Guadalajara and Jazz at Lincoln Center, presents the Luis Bonilla Quartet “Trombonilla”.

Folk dance
The Ballet Folklórico de la Universidad de Colima presents its show “Orgullo De La Tierra Mia” (Pride of My Land).

Jalisco Philharmonic Orchestra
A Beethoven special commemorating the 150th anniversary of the Degollado Theater. Marco Parisotto conducts Beethoven’s Leonore Overture Nº 3 in C major, Op. 72b and the majestic Symphony No. 9 in D minor, Op. 125.  He is joined by Latvian soprano Maija Kovalevska, alto Cassandra Zoe Velasco, tenor Cesar Delgado and bass Grigory Soloviov.

Siddhartha the Musical
An original musical production by Chu Un Temple, and directed under the Fo Guang Shan Academy of Art of the Philippines. The musical is an adaptation of The Biography of Sakyamuni Buddha, written by Buddhist monk Hsing Yun, founder of the Fo Guang Shan Buddhist Order in Taiwan.  A critical success in Europe and the United States.

Classic ballet
Russian troupe, Ballet Estatal De Rusia Mari El, are back in town to present “Romeo and Juliet.”

Othello
Ragnar Conde is the scenic director, while Marco Parisotto conducts the Jalisco Philharmonic Orchestra, in a full-blown production of Verdi’s opera “Othello,” based on Shakespeare’s famous work. A stellar cast is headed by U.S. tenor Issachah Savage in the title role and Latvian soprano Maija Kovalevska as Desdemona. U.S. baritone Michael Chioldi plays Iago. Choose from four dates.

Music from China
The China National Traditional Orchestra, also called China National Orchestra, is a 110-piece orchestra of traditional Chinese musical instruments with an accompanying folk choir.  Founded in Beijing in 1960, the orchestra is a state-level performing arts institution directly administered and endorsed by China’s Ministry of Culture.
