Jazz festival comes to Guadalajara

The Jalisco Jazz Festival is gearing up to be a special event this year, with top-class invited guests from both home and abroad. 

For the general public, three gala concerts are scheduled at the Degollado Theater, plus two five-hour “jam” sessions at the Teatro Diana. Special pre-purchased “Diamond,” “Gold” and “Silver” memberships (4,000, 2,500 and 1,500 pesos respectively) include double entry tickets to the exclusive opening gala, best seating at all the shows, cocktail parties with performers, and private recitals. The  festival, organized by Tonica GDL, will also feature seminars, workshops and a jazz camp.

- Friday, July 31, 8 p.m. Opening gala and VIP cocktail, exclusive to  “members.” Homage to Victor Ruiz Pazos.

-Saturday, August 1, 6-11 p.m. Fiesta de Jazz Day One. Mexican and international performers, experienced and up-and-coming. 50-230 pesos.

-Sunday, August 2, 6-11 p.m. Fiesta de Jazz Day Two. Mexican and international performers, experienced and up-and-coming. 50-230 pesos.

Wednesday, August 5, 8 p.m. Trumpeter Dave Douglas and the Klaus Mayer Big Band.

-Thursday, August 6, 8 p.m. The Meeting with Brian Lynch and the Frost Jazz Sextet from the University of Miami.

Friday, August 7, 8 p.m. All-star gala.
