United Kingdom to showcase literary legacy at city's massive International Book Fair

The United Kingdom is to be the guest of honor at the 2015 Guadalajara International Book Fair (FIL).

The agreement was signed in Mexico City at the offices of the British Council by Lena Milosevic, director of the British Council Mexico, and FIL President Raúl Padilla Lopez. Also present were Duncan Taylor, U.K. ambassador to Mexico, and  FIL Director Marisol Schulz.

“The United Kingdom is home to some of the most important literature in history and the contemporary world,” said Padilla.  “FIL will be the ideal opportunity to showcase its historic legacy, and of course, its literary legacy.”

Martin Amis, Patrick McGrath, Peter Hobbs, Aminatta Forna, Owen Sheers, Adam Thirlwell and William Golding – the first Nobel Prize winner to attend the FIL – are some of the British authors who have visited the fair in the past.

By coincidence, 2015 has been designated the year of the United Kingdom in Mexico.

Argentina is the invited country to the 2014 edition of FIL, which runs at Expo Guadalajara from November 29 to December 7. The fair is considered the largest literary event of its kind in the world.
